NEW YORK CITY – On Sunday, November 8, Poster Auctions International will offer more than 500 lots of rare, vintage posters in its semi-annual auction of Art Nouveau and Art Deco masterpieces in its 49th semi-annual auction, Soaring Posters. Drawing from a host of stellar private collections from around the world, the variety and quality of posters in this sale is unmatched in today’s market. All items are on view October 23 – November 7, open and free to the public.

Starting off this auction are two sections dedicated to some of the most compelling genres in poster history: Early American Theatrical posters and Classic Aviation. The former, highlighted by the brilliant work of Morgan Litho., provides a glimpse into one of the most seldom-seen and earliest forms of large-scale color advertising. The latter, a remarkable collection of over 50 aviation posters, touches on every aspect of field, from the Wright Brothers to famous French air races to bold and Modern airline advertisements.

Also highlighted in this sale are impressive selections by some of the most renowned Art Nouveau masters. Over 25 works by the iconic Cappiello, 27 works by Mucha, including an original oil painting, and an important collection of works by Toulouse-Lautrec, which includes his two-sheet Moulin Rouge, an original drawing, as well as an exceptionally rare hand-painted ceramic of Yvette Guilbert.

Art Deco is also strongly represented in the sale, headlined by A.M. Cassandre’s stunning and rarely-seen La Route Bleue (Est: $17,000-20,000), Loupot’s brilliantly-colored Valentine, as well as Paul Colin’s magnificent portfolio Le Tumulte Noir (Est: $17,000-20,000) and his poster Andre Renaud (Est: $20,000-25,000).

Other featured items include a French poster for a film on Cassius Clay, a seldom-seen Secessionist image by Auchentaller, Bonheur’s extremely rare three-sheet Buffalo Bill, a set of three posters advertising Manet’s first exhibitions in the United States; a set of six General Dynamics/Atoms for Peace posters, and Soviet Cold War propaganda, as well as exceptional collections of works by Berthon, Bonnard, Bouisset, Bradley, Broders, Cheret, Dupas, Hans Erni, de Feure, Fix-Masseau, Grun, Hockney, Hohlwein, Kieser, Mauzan, Pal, Parrish, Sem, and Steinlen.
